For the very first time in Compact Disc format Full Stereo, the soundtrack of the 1962 movie of the same name is available for the international music industry. Pre-order from 20/09.
Out on 10th of September “Mafioso”, the soundtrack by Master Piero Piccioni of the comedy-drama movie of 1962 Alberto Lattuada, performed by a great Alberto Sordi. A new discovery of the work of the Master Piccioni, “Mafioso” is a composite musical work, a gem in the Italian and International film music. A 21-tracks-long journey throughout Piccioni’s eclecticism.
“Piero Piccioni began his partnership with Alberto Sordi as actor/director with the 1966 movie “Fumo di Londra”; and from then on their collaboration did not cease until the last film by Alberto Sordi, “Incontri proibiti”.
The main musical theme in “Mafioso” was composed as a commentary dominated by a recurring main symphonic theme, almost a waltz with a circus flavour exuding a graceful romantic motif which describes the protagonist’s family on his journey to Sicily.
The recurrent, dramatic, mysterious and eerie passages, with the string arrangements bordering atonal music, describe the hidden side of the protagonist’s life; a man who lives and works in the North, but who has never lost contact with the roots of his native land.
All the while, the tense sound dimension is peppered and contrasted by numerous ‘ballabili’ pieces such as surf music, Latin and jazz for rarefied big band orchestra, as the protagonist finds himself in the United States to kill under Cosa Nostra’s command.
The only non-original song that appears in the film is “Whispering” written in 1920 by Schonberger and that Piero Piccioni elaborated into a pleasantly danceable version.
”Mafioso” is released for the very first time ever on CD thanks to the stereophonic elements preserved in the private archives of the Piccioni Estate, using every note recorded in the session of the time and in the second part we also include the tracks that were originally released in mono on the Extended Play RCA PDM 31-316 Europa series. Another addition that enriches the ever-growing and immensely loved discography of Maestro Piero Piccioni, whose other works are continued to be brought into the light on the disk”
